I see the artist as an observer & journalist–creating images (stories) that document and confirm our existence. The most ordinary objects occupying our daily lives become grist for unwrapping our cultural idiosyncrasies–often revealing humor and unintended ironies. Anthropologists continue to show us that we are not only remembered by the larger historical markers, but also by the used-up and discarded trinkets we leave behind. Recent paintings I have “cluttered” with images of teapots, antique Japanese dolls, used paint tubes, old cars and hedgehogs–to name a few, just stuff not noticed or left behind.
